The Tour-exclusive Spider Tour X Proto is reaching golfers in limited quantities. TaylorMade says its forward center of gravity aims to bring blade-like face rotation to a stable mallet.

At the center of the Proto is a forward-shifted center of gravity, intended to change how the face rotates through a stroke. TaylorMade first offered the putter as a Tour exclusive; now it is bringing the model to golfers in limited quantities. Its design targets blade-like face rotation while retaining the stability and forgiveness associated with the Spider franchise.

TaylorMade says deliberate weight distribution moves the CG as far forward as possible while preserving True Path Alignment and structural stability. The design is aimed at players who prefer blade-like performance but want a mallet's stability.

The standard Spider Tour X already had a forward-shifted center of gravity: GolfBox lists it at about 33 mm, compared with 35 mm for the regular Spider. Its stated design aim is to combine a more blade-like response with mallet benefits.

Forward CG shapes the intended stroke

The listed CG location is 20.3mm, compared with 33mm+ for the Spider Tour X. The Proto has an L-Neck hosel and 28.1° of toe hang. GolfBox lists the standard model with a Small Slant hosel at about 30° of toe hang, or a face-balanced Double Bend option, in its Spider Tour X specifications.

TaylorMade says precision-engineered weights are meant to provide stability and pinpoint swing weighting. True Path Alignment is designed to help golfers visualize the line to the hole and match the face to the path.

The face is milled, but TaylorMade's announcement includes no comparative test data on feel, start-line performance or forgiveness. Those remain design aims, not independently demonstrated results.

GolfBox lists the standard Spider Tour X with 3° of loft and a 70° lie, matching the Proto's listed geometry. Its Small Slant and face-balanced Double Bend options also offer different setup choices; the listing does not establish Proto production numbers or later deliveries.

Limited availability and a $500 price

The right-handed putter measures 34 inches and has 3° of loft with a 70° lie. TaylorMade lists it for $500 USD, with limited quantities available at taylormadegolf.com and through retail beginning 11/7. The standard Spider Tour X has the same listed loft and lie; the Proto's more forward CG is its main stated design distinction.

Golfers drawn to blade-like face rotation may see the Proto as a stable Spider-style option. An independent GolfBox listing confirms commercial availability of the standard Spider Tour X, but says nothing about current stock, Proto production volume or later deliveries.

No independent comparative data establishes an advantage in MOI. The available record also has no comparative findings on start-line accuracy or speed consistency. Impact feel has not been independently compared.
